When Bart was promoted to manager of volunteer services nearly four years ago, there were 70 adult and 40 adolescent volunteers at Doctors Hospital. "Today," he proudly declares, "there's a volunteer force of 500." The volunteer surge is due, in part, to Bart partnering with HOSA, Health Occupations Students of America. "The junior/clinical program is what I wake up and go to bed thinking about," he says. Through HOSA, Bart offers local high school students the opportunity to bring classroom knowledge to the hospital for hands-on clinical experience. "All our volunteers are fantastic; the adults bring wisdom and life experience and our juniors have a real desire to make a difference."
His favorite thing about reading skirt!: "Seeing what man was brave enough to wear a skirt."
The best thing about wearing a skirt? "It was a bit breezy, but very comfortable."
