24/7 with Dr. Mary Hughes

MCGHealth Neurologist, Augusta, GA

My family: Is my source of strength.

My work: Inspires me.

My hometown: I’m an army brat-we never know how to answer that question.

My favorite possession: My 39th birthday gift to myself—a 1990 candy apple red Mazda Miata convertible.

The best thing I ever won: MCG Distinguished Faculty Award; there’s nothing like having your peers recognize you for your work.

I can’t live without: Oreos! I keep a stash under my desk at all times.

Words I live by: “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

Last major purchase: A makeover. Don’t mess with me in my diva red lipstick!

I am most proud of: My eight-year-son Alan.

What keeps me awake at night: Primary Results: Obama for President!

I am guilty of: Over-committing myself.

My theme song: I Will Survive-Gloria Gaynor.

If I had a vanity plate on my car, it would say: GO GIRL!

If I could do it all over again: I wouldn’t.

My best friend says I am: Too trusting.

I still can’t get the hang of:  Picking men. Enough said.

The world would be a better place if only: We actually practiced what we preached.

My mother always said: Wear clean underwear…don’t ask!

The worst idea I’ve ever had: Do you really want to know his name?

I’m thinking about: How soon can I schedule my next vacation?

One thing I never want to do again: The list is too long…but then, I wouldn’t be who I am today.

If I could be totally wild, I would: What do you know?

Right now I’m reading: Eat, Love Pray.

The one item that has changed my life: My Bible.

The nickname I wish I had:  Anything that doesn’t have a poem to it-“Mary had a little lamb…”

My theme song: I Will Survive-Gloria Gaynor.

My favorite body part: The Hughes girls have always been known for their legs!

The food I could eat everyday: Oreos-wait, I do eat them everyday!

The most important thing I ever lost: My sanity.

I’d like to learn to: Sing, but genetics are not in my favor.

Something most people don’t know about me: I can actually cook...no really.

The smartest woman I know: My mom.

My first job: Bank teller-they don’t really like it when you lose money, so I didn’t last long.
